[BFA] Painting and Drawing

My work serves as an exploration into the world of tattoo art. I take images often seen on the walls of a tattoo shop and recreate them using drawing and painting, both digitally and physically. In recreating these classic designs, I am able to understand the slight nuances in line and color that change how we interpret an image. Much of my work is an homage to Japanese art, using motifs such as splashing water and swirling wind to create flow and movement in my backgrounds. These backgrounds are commonly used in Japanese tattoos to connect large scale tattoos seamlessly on someone’s body. Rendered using black lines, dark shading, and bright colors, my pieces are bold and quickly understood.
