Elle Marroquin
[BFA] Illustration
I create narrative work through the use of illustration, comics and animation. Through my work I process my emotions and my obsession with labels for the relationships with the people in my life. I think deeply about love and the interpersonal ties that bind my life, and since I cannot lend others my heart or eyes, I work to capture my ideas and experiences in panels and characters to truly express the warmth and dread in my heart. I use limited color palette to draw attention to key points in my work, such as eyes, and use small acts of expression such as hand gestures to show big emotions. I use my characters as place holders for myself and the people in my life in order to highlight dimensions of relationships that I feel are not expressed in media, such as deep love between friends and feeling like a stranger in my family.
