This charcoal drawing, Father and Son, is rendered on 38” x 50” Lenox paper. I selected this piece because of the technical challenge of working at a large scale and the pride I continue to feel toward its completion. Based on a photograph of my dad and brother, the drawing reflects their close relationship, something I have always been aware of. Growing up on a farm in a small town, I often felt slightly outside of that bond. Through charcoal, I focused on value and texture to capture both likeness and emotion.
