Lizeth Lopez Garcia
My work is inspired by Talavera ceramics, known for their white glaze, cobalt blue designs, and intricate patterns rooted in Islamic, Indigenous and Spanish traditions from Publea, Mexico. Growing up surrounded by Talavera, I see it as a symbol of history and identity. My current work focuses on ceramic tiles coated in white slip, layering patterns with overglazes in a meditative process. As a first-generation Mexican American, my work reflects a dialogue between tradition and individuality. My experimenting with pattern and surface, I honor Talavera while expressing my own voice, showing how culture evolves through new hands and personal stories.
