In this body of work, I am exploring the different interpretations of the Virgin Mary in the Catholic world. She changes in appearance under all the titles she is given but always maintains a tranquil air and embodies a perfected nature that links her to the transcendent. Although she has been portrayed in art many times, these are my interpretations.

Bio

Katy Michels is an artist with an emphasis in painting and drawing from Lincoln Nebraska currently focusing on traditional art themes and Catholic imagery. She will receive her Bachelor of Arts in Drawing and French language from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in December of 2021. She is interested in the realism of the natural world and takes inspiration from the human figure, architecture, and plant life.
