Margo Johnson

[BA] Studio Art – Sculpture

[Minor] Environmental Studies

My art springs from fascination with the natural world and concern for its wellbeing. I draw from plants and animals as a reference for my small-scale, surreal lifeforms. I sculpt with vibrantly colored clay and textiles to catch the viewers’ attention, and draw them in, much like the way the colors in flora and fauna function in nature. My hybridization of animal and plant features is recognition of the shared lineage and interconnection of all life on earth. Housed in miniature circus tents, my speculative creations offer a peek into a fantasy world, yet also invite viewers to think about the presence of nonhuman earthlings.
