[BFA] Painting

My current series, As it Was, So it Goes, includes nine small watercolor and ink portraits of myself as a child with handwritten text. Referring to photographs from my family archives, I use watercolor and ink to isolate and focus on the essence of a moment from my childhood. The short, handwritten notes offer the viewer another way into the image and highlight my personality that was clearly forming when these photographs were taken. Drawing from diverse influences including comics, children’s books, and meme culture, this work enables me to reflect on my childhood with an adult, multi-dimensional perspective that embraces both humor and honesty within the work.
