Reilly Woodward
[BFA] Studio Art – Drawing
This exhibition showcases the series, Alternate Reality, which depicts present-day figures from a different world. This work uses pieces of the body, fleeting love, and mortality as symbols that represent the emotional stresses of life. While these figures are from another reality, they still face universal problems. Inspired by old-style pen and ink illustrations, I use graphite pencils to mimic this realism. Influenced by Caravaggio and Robert Longo’s technical application and realistic style, I draw human-animal hybrids to represent the people living in this alternate reality. Similar to animals in nature, these figures use their animal features for tools, fashion, or determining social hierarchy in their society. By imbuing these people with glassy/statuesque eyes, I want to spark a curiosity about the nature of these figures.
